Teaching Assistant Certificate

This program is designed to prepare students to work as Teaching Assistants and to provide them with a core of college level courses that may be applied to a transfer degree. For more information about teaching assistant certification in New York State, please visit their Web site. Graduates are prepared to accept positions as Teaching Assistants. Daily tasks of the teaching assistant include:

  • Assisting the teacher with large group instruction
  • Working with students in small groups
  • Providing one-on-one guidance to students
  • Scoring tests, quizzes and homework assignments
  • Providing clerical assistance to the teacher

Career Opportunities/Transfer Information

Graduates find employment in elementary or secondary schools. Others may opt to continue their studies by pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts: General Studies, Liberal Arts: Humanities or Liberal Arts: Social Science. Upon completion of the A.A. degree, students may transfer to SUC at Oneonta, SUC at Cortland, SUC at Oswego and a variety of other four-year institutions which feature education programs.
